If You've Worked for the Wrong Painting Company, You Already Know the Difference
You know what it feels like to work for a contractor who skips prep, doesn't pay on time, treats the crew like interchangeable labor, or disappears the moment a homeowner has a complaint. You also know what it feels like — if you've been lucky — to work somewhere that takes the work seriously.
True North Painting is the second kind. Owner-operated, locally based in Chesterland, and built around a simple idea: do the work right, treat the customer well, and pay the crew what they're actually worth.
The company has grown the way good local businesses grow — quietly, through referrals, with a focus on the work rather than flashy marketing. If you're a painter who cares about the standard of your work, shows up when you say you will, and wants to work for a company where the owner actually knows your name — read on.
What's Different About Working at True North
The painting industry has a lot of ways of being a bad employer. None of them fit how True North operates.
Owner-led, not corporate-run.
George Elefteriou owns the company outright. He's on every estimate, knows every crew member by name, and stops by job sites regularly. If something needs addressing, you talk to the owner — not three layers of management.
Real wages for real skill.
Painting is skilled work, and skilled work earns competitive pay. True North pays in line with the better residential painting employers in the Chagrin Valley — not the bottom of the market. Specifics discussed based on experience and role.
Steady work, not feast-or-famine.
Strong referral base and a consistent project schedule. Exterior season runs mid-April through late October. Interior work runs year-round — which keeps schedules workable in the off-months and avoids the long dry spells common elsewhere.
A crew that actually communicates.
Daily project briefings. Clear scope before each project starts. Real conversation about what's working and what isn't. A small team that knows how to work together — not a rotating cast of strangers on the same job site.
Tools and products done right
Sherwin-Williams partnership means access to the better product lines on every project. Tools and equipment are maintained. The crew isn't expected to cut corners with cheap paint to keep a bid profitable.
Local respect
True North is a Chesterland-based company working in communities the crew actually lives in. Short commutes, local accountability, and a company reputation the whole team has a real stake in maintaining.
How the Crew Actually Works
The culture at True North isn't something you put on a wall plaque. It shows up in how the work gets done day to day.
Show up on time
If the crew starts at 8 AM, the crew is on-site at 8 AM. Not "around 8." Punctuality is the baseline expectation, not an aspiration.
Take ownership
If a corner wasn't cut clean, fix it. If a wall needs another coat, apply it. "Good enough" is not the standard. The walkthrough at the end of every project is when good work shows up.
Do the prep
Skipping prep is the fastest way to ruin a paint job. Sanding, caulking, spackling, priming — that's the standard, not an upgrade. Crew members who try to skip prep aren't a fit.
Communicate clearly
If the project is on track, say so. If something changes, say so before it becomes a problem. Customers who stay informed during a project refer the company afterward.
Respect the customer's home.
Drop cloths down before any tools come out. Plastic over fixtures. Tape laid carefully on trim. Daily cleanup so the homeowner's home isn't a construction zone overnight.
Treat each other well
Crew members are colleagues, not competitors. Senior painters mentor newer ones. Newer painters ask questions instead of guessing. The job site is a place people actually want to work.

What's Different About Working at True North
-
The owner knows your name
George Elefteriou runs the company himself. He stops by job sites, knows every crew member personally, and handles concerns directly — no layers of management, no HR inbox that responds in three days. You'll meet him in the first week and work alongside him regularly.
-
The schedule is honest
Project timelines are built around what's actually achievable — not what makes the bid look better. Exterior season runs mid-April through late October. Interior work fills the off-months. You're not scrambling to hit impossible deadlines or sitting idle with no hours.
-
The prep doesn't get skipped
At some companies, prep gets cut to protect margin. At True North, prep is non-negotiable — and that means the work you put your name on actually holds up. No rushing through caulking to move to the next job. No applying finish coats over unsanded surfaces. The standard is the standard.
-
The pay reflects the skill
Painting is a trade. True North pays like it is — in line with the better residential painting employers in the Chagrin Valley, not the bottom of the market. Specifics are discussed based on your role and experience. No bait-and-switch after the offer.
-
The product is right
Sherwin-Williams professional lines on every project — not whatever's cheapest. Tools and equipment are maintained. The crew isn't expected to make bad gear work or substitute cheap materials to keep a bid profitable.

If your application looks like a fit, George reaches out for a 20–30 minute call. The goal is to understand what you're looking for, walk through your experience, and answer your questions about the company. No tricks, no scripts.
If the call goes well, the next step is meeting in person — usually at the True North office in Chesterland or at a job site if scheduling works. You'll see the operation, meet George face to face, and ask any questions you still have.
For experienced roles, references are typically checked at this stage. If everything lines up, an offer is made — usually with a start date within 1–2 weeks. Straightforward from here.
Crew arrives on the planned start date with everything needed to protect your home. Furniture covered, drop cloths down, plastic over fixtures, edges taped. Then prep, paint, daily cleanup, and a livable home throughout.
